Session 3 - Steelmakers turn to Latin America for growth
The economic downturn postponed many investments and projects, which had been planned for Latin America. Now the mills are revisiting their plans: it is a suitable time for much more ambitious projects. An integrated mill was recently commissioned in Brazil, but it seems this may only be the tip of the iceberg.

Session 4 - Latin America: trade and fundamental trends after the crisis
Some of Latin America’s smaller countries have remarkably vibrant domestic markets. Yet this year and going forward, tighter profit margins are likely to encourage more intra-regional trade, as well as consolidation among suppliers, whether they are producers, processors or distributors. This session will look at some of the consequences of the recent market downturn and how different markets and producers have responded.

Panel Discussion: effects and consequences of global trends in Latin America
Global steel markets are extremely volatile at present, having to accommodate fluctuating iron ore and coking coal prices, worldwide excess production capacity, and austerity programmes. China is an enigma, and whilst the Brazilian market may be quite strong, many other national markets worldwide are still facing much slower demand growth. A range of panelists, include some speakers from earlier sessions, will discuss these issues and take questions from conference panelists. Mark Wiggett to make an initial presentation.
